Hello Everyone,
Today (27 Feb 2026) was a day at sea as we make our way to Singapore. I used the day to get caught up on my blogs from Jakarta, and to relax a bit.
Milestone Buffet
You'll recall that we had a large buffet to celebrate the end of one month at sea at the end of January (see the blog entry titled "Food Porn"). Well, it's almost the end of February, so it's time to do it again! Here are some pictures, taken just before the buffet opened to the masses. You can click here for a video walkthrough too.
The Cats of Indonesia
All along the way, I've been making friends with stray cats. I've found them to be universally tame, friendly, and eager for attention. Just for fun, here are some pictures of many I've seen.
Overall, they've been healthy looking and well fed. One curious thing though is that many of them have bobbed, kinked, or spiral-shaped tails. I assumed the first cat I saw like that (the black one with the "buck teeth" markings, above) had simply lost his tail to some type of fight or accident. But then I noticed it was a common trait among a large percentage of cats. So, I did some research and learned that it's a very common genetic variation in stray cats throughout Southeast Asia. Interesting!
Tomorrow we'll dock in Singapore. We'll spend two nights and three days there, so there will be lots to see and do. We'll also begin a seven-day streak of ports without any sea days in between, so I may be very busy and fall behind a bit on the blogs. I'll do my best to keep up, but spot me a few points if I go several days between posts!
I'd say cat number 4 from the bottom has some bobcat blood, look at those feet! And coloring and maybe it's just a male, but big head. Maybe that's how the tail defect got in there.
